An identifier plus photos - as many products in one go as you like. The identifier is the ASIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN, written without dashes or spaces.
The first photo is the main image, the rest follow as PT01-PT08. Mark a colour swatch, skip what you don't need - and the tool warns about photos that are too small, not square or not JPEG.
Every file inside is already named to the convention - the archive is ready for the Bulk Image Upload tool in Seller Central or for Vendor Central.

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser: photos are read, checked and packaged on your device, and the page makes no network requests with your files. Close the tab - and nothing of yours remains anywhere.
Yes - it is how bulk upload works. The Bulk Image Upload tool in Seller Central and the image upload in Vendor Central match files to products by the filename: identifier, then a variant code, separated by periods. One listing edited by hand in the UI does not need it; catalogues uploaded in bulk do.
The main image plus up to eight alternates - MAIN and PT01 through PT08 - and one colour swatch (SWCH). The tool counts this for you and marks anything over the limit.
About photos smaller than Amazon likes (under 1000px zoom will not work), non-square images, a main image that is not JPEG or whose background does not look white, files over 10 MB and unusual formats. Warnings do not block the ZIP - they simply tell you what Amazon may reject.
